Rod McKuen was born in Oakland in 1933. After moving to Paris, France, in the sixties he began writing poems and essays. He was also a prolific songwriter.
Jean for the 1969 movie „The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie“ remains one of his best-rememembered songs. His adaption of French chansonnier Jacques Brel’s Le Moribond was one of his greatest successes druing the 1960s and ’70s. Frank Sinatra recorded an entire album with songs written by Rod McKuen in 1969 which included Love’s Been Good To Me. His musical compositions for the animated film „A Boy Named Charlie Brown“ received an Oscar nomination.
Rod McKuen, suffering from pneumonia, had been brought to hospital in Beverly Hills. He passed away on Thursday, January 29.
