\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wiederver\u00f6ffentlichung von zwei karibischen Aufnahmen aus den Siebzigerjahren.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Calypso, Soul, Funk (“Soca“), Reggae sowie afrikanische Einfl\u00fcsse aus Trinidad & Tobago.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Destruction, ein sozialkritischer Song, wurde zu Versatiles Erkennungszeichen.
\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Neu gemastert von Frank Merritt (The Carvery, UK), mit exklusiver Bildh\u00fclle Doran Dorril Hector alias “Versatile“ wurde 1949 in Matura Village auf Trinidad geboren.
\nZu Beginn seiner Karriere 1965 spielte er Gitarre in einem Gesangsquartett namens the Orchids. Ab 1967 schrieb er Calypso f\u00fcr die North East Competition in Sangre Grande, wo er auch auftrat und hinter Mighty Poser auf dem zweiten Platz landete. Bei dem Teen Talent Wettbewerb, der 1968 im Scarlet Ibis Hotel stattfand, wurde er mit seiner Version von Otis Reddings Dreams To Remember zum besten singenden Teen gew\u00e4hlt. Zur Belohnung gab es eine Aufnahmesession bei Telco Records. Auf Telco erschien dann auch Dorrils erste Platte, Dance With Me. W\u00e4hrend der Sechzigerjahre besuchte er als Leads\u00e4nger von Ed Watson & The Brass Circle die gesamte englischsprachige Karibik sowie New York, Miami, die U.S. Virgin Island und Guadeloupe. 1970 beschloss er, sich auf Calypso zu konzentrieren und nannte sich fortan “Versatile“. Bevor er selbst im Rampenlichts stand trat er w\u00e4hrend der Karnevalssaison als Backgrounds\u00e4nger f\u00fcr verschiedene Calypso-Formationen in den Calypso-Zelten auf. Gleichzeitig arbeitete er als Backgrounds\u00e4nger f\u00fcr Max Serrao\u2019s Caribbean Sound Studios, K.H. Studios und Semp Studios. Nachdem er durch seine Arbeit im Unterhaltungsgesch\u00e4ft ein wenig Geld auf die Seite hatte legen k\u00f6nnen, beschloss Dorril 1974, die n\u00e4chste Aufnahme selbst zu produzieren und zu finanzieren.
\nIn den K.H. Studios in Sea Lots, Port of Spain nahm er Country Boy Come To Town auf, einen Calypso-Pop Crossover-Song. Der Song brachte wenig Erfolg auf Trinidad. F\u00fcr seine n\u00e4chste Single, Let It Out, ging er 1975 eine Partnerschaft mit den K.H. Studios ein. Der Song mixte Calypso, Funk und afrikanische Einfl\u00fcsse und lieferte eine gutes Beispiel f\u00fcr die gerade entstehende neue musikalische Kunstform namens “Soca“. Nach wie vor konnte Dorril seine Musik\u00a0 und die Arrangements nicht f\u00fcr die Studiomusiker aufschreiben. Ellis Chow Lin On (damals Manager der K.H. Studios) stellte Dorril Pelham Goddard vor, der soeben Roots, seine neue Band, gegr\u00fcndet hatte. Pelham Goddard brachte die Arrangements zu Papier und Roots nahmen den Backing-Track auf. Zu den Musikern z\u00e4hlten Namen wie Clive Bradley und Michael \u2019Toby\u2019 Tobas. Dorril ver\u00f6ffentlichte die Platte auf seinem eigenen \u2019Hector\u2019-Label. Im August 1977 ging er zur\u00fcck ins Studio und nahm das sozialkritische Lied Destruction auf, eine gef\u00fchlvolle Reggae-Nummer. Die Instrumentalspuren wurde von Colin Lucas und seiner soeben gegr\u00fcndeten Band Sound Revolution eingespielt. Nach Ende des Karnevals im darauffolgenden Jahr wurde der Song zu einem gro\u00dfen Hit in Trinidad und der gesamten Karibik und schlie\u00dflich zu Dorrils Erkennungszeichen. Nach wie vor nimmt Dorril eigenes Material auf und tritt bis zum heutigen Tage live auf. Ausserdem ist er ein aktives Mitglied der T.U.C.O. \nHe first began writing and performing Calypso in 1967 for the North East Competition in Sangre Grande where he emerged 1st runner up to the Mighty Poser. He further went on to be judged the best singing teen at the Teen Talent Competition held at Scarlet Ibis Hotel in 1968 performing Otis Redding\u2019s “Dreams To Remember“. The prize was a recording session at Telco Records and it was at this company that Dorril released his first record “Dance With Me“. In the late sixties he also began travelling as a lead singer with Ed Watson and the Brass Circle, visiting the entire English-speaking Caribbean. He also went to New York, Miami, The U.S. Virgin Islands and Guadeloupe. In 1970 he decided to get into the Calypso genre and changed his artist name to “Versatile“. Before getting on the front stage he began doing background vocals for several calypsonians in the Calypso tents during Carnival season. He also began to work as a background vocalist at Max Serrao\u2019s Caribbean Sound Studios, K.H. studios and Semp studios. After saving some money from working in the entertainment business, Dorril decided to do a self-financed recording in 1974 and recorded “Country Boy Come To Town“ at K.H. studios in Sea Lots, Port of Spain, a calypso-pop crossover song. The song was a minor success in Trinidad. In 1975 he went into a partnership with K.H. studios to record his next single “Let It Out“. The song was a mixture of Calypso, Funk and African influences and served as a good example for the newly evolving musical artform called “Soca“. However, Dorril was still unable to write down his music and arrangements for the studio musicians. Ellis Chow Lin On (then manager at K.H. studios) introduced Dorril to Pelham Goddard who had just formed his band “Roots“. Pellham Goddard wrote down the arrangements and Roots recorded the backing track. Among the musicians were names like Clive Bradley and Michael “Toby“ Tobas. Dorril released the record on his own “Hector“ label. Back in the studio in August 1977 he recorded the socio-critical song “Destruction“, a soulful reggae tune. The backing track was recorded by Colin Lucas and his newly-formed band “Sound Revolution“. After Carnival the following year the song became a big hit in Trinidad and the wider Caribbean and finally Dorril\u2019s signature song. Dorril kept recording his own material and is performing live to this day. He is also an active member of T.U.C.O.
