    \nRock ’n‘ Roll war immer eine reine M\u00e4nnergesellschaft; nur wenige Frauen kriegten was auf die Reihe, eine davon war Janis Martin! 1956 erhielt sie einen Vertrag von RCA Victor, die gerade erst Elvis verpflichtet hatten. Janis spielte einige der rohesten, wildesten Rockabilly-Nummern \u00fcberhaupt ein \u2013 mit ihren Auftritten in ‚American Bandstand‘, ‚The Tonight Show‘, ‚The Today Show‘, ‚The Grand Ole Opry‘ und ‚The Ozark Jubilee‘ bereitete sie au\u00dferdem den Weg f\u00fcr andere Rock ’n‘ Roll-Frauen. RCA verpa\u00dfte ihr den Titel ‚Der weibliche Elvis‘ \u2013 und so weit hergeholt war das auch nicht, denn sie ri\u00df wirklich jeden und alles mit. Songs wie Bang Bang, Love Me To Pieces, Will You Willyum<\/em> und vor allem Drug Store Rock ’n‘ Roll<\/em> sind bezeichnend f\u00fcr eine \u00c4ra, die der Rockabilly dominierte. Doch dann zog sich Janis pl\u00f6tzlich aus dem Musikgesch\u00e4ft zur\u00fcck; sie hatte keine Ahnung, da\u00df ihre Schallplatten zu immer h\u00f6heren Preisen gehandelt wurden \u2013 und Sammler quer \u00fcber zwei Kontinente fragten sich, was wohl aus Janis geworden war. Sie begann ihre Karriere blutjung, ist gleichaltrig mit Ringo Starr und nur drei Jahre \u00e4lter als Mick Jagger und Paul McCartney. Die positive Folge: Als sie auf die B\u00fchne zur\u00fcckkehrte, war ihre Stimme noch immer genauso geschmeidig und kraftstrotzend wie auf ihren ganz fr\u00fchen Aufnahmen, die jetzt hier vorliegen. Viele Kolleginnen, f\u00fcr die Janis den Weg ebnete, benennen sie als ihren gr\u00f6\u00dften Einflu\u00df. Die vorliegende CD umfa\u00dft Janis‘ beste Aufnahmen: die Singles, die ihren Ruhm begr\u00fcndeten, und bisher unver\u00f6ffentlichte Outtakes.     Rock ’n‘ roll was a boys club; few women could handle it, but Janis Martin could! In 1956, RCA Victor (which had just signed Elvis), signed Janis too. She cut some of the rawest, rockin’est rockabilly and blazed a trail for women rock ’n‘ rollers with her appearances on ‚American Bandstand‘,‘ The Tonight Show‘, ‚The Today Show‘, ‚The Grand Ole Opry‘, and ‚The Ozark Jubilee‘. RCA dubbed her ‚The Female Elvis,‘ and the comparison wasn’t far-fetched. She could really rip it up. Songs like Bang Bang, Love Me To Pieces, Will You Willyum<\/em>, and especially Drug Store Rock ’n‘ Roll<\/em> captured an era when rockabilly ruled and the world shifted a little on its axis. But then Janis retired from the business, unaware that her records traded hands at ever higher prices, and that collectors across two continents were wondering whatever happened to her. She was so young when she started (the same age as Ringo Starr and just three years older than Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney) that when she returned to the stage her voice was still as lithe and vibrant as it was on the early recordings we’ve included here. Fellow female performers, for whom Janis blazed a trail, readily acknowledge her influence, and she’s probably a bigger star today than in 1956. This is a full-length CD devoted to Janis‘ best work: the singles that earned her the acclaim together with previously unissued outtakes. Plus new photos and new liner notes.
