James Luther ’Jim’ Dickinson spielte Klavier auf dem Rolling Stones-Titel Wild Horses.  Seine Söhne, Luther und Cody Dickinson, sind Gründungsmitglieder der North Mississippi Allstars.  James Luther ’Jim’ Dickinson (1941 – 2009) wurde in Little Rock, Arkansas, geboren. Der Musikproduzent, Klavierspieler, Sänger und gefragte Sessionmusiker spielte 1969 Klavier auf dem Rolling Stones-Titel Wild Horses und 1971 bei ’Teenage Head’ von den Flamin’ Groovies. Mit den Dixie Flyers, einer Band mit Gitarrist Charlie Freeman, Keyboarder Mike Utley, Bassist Tommy McClure und Schlagzeuger Sammy Creason, die er in den späten Sechzigerjahren in Memphis gründete, begleitete Dickinson Aretha Franklin, Sam & Dave und zahllose andere Label-Soulkollegen im ATLANTIC-eigenen Studio in Miami, Florida. In Memphis war er später Chef der Americana-Band Mud Boy & the Neutrons.
Als James Luther Dickinson 1972 sein erstes eigenes Album aufnahm (das nächste sollte erst dreißig Jahre später folgen!), galt er bereits als bestens bekannter Musiker und Produzent. Auf Anregung von Jerry Wexler von ATLANTIC RECORDS arbeiteten die Dixie Flyers bei annähernd jeder ATLANTIC-Soulsession als Studioband. Nur die Jungs aus den Muscle Shoals Studios wirkten bei mehr Aufnahmen mit. Zusätzlich wollte Wexler ein Album mit den Dixie Flyers selbst produzieren – ‚Dixie Fried’ war das Ergebnis, ein einzigartiger gelungener Mix aus Southern Boogie, Blues, Soul und Country Music, eine Ansammlung von neun handverlesenen Songs.
‚Dixie Fried’ wird oft als unentdecktes Juwel, als vergessenes Meisterwerk, als ein legendäres und nur schwer zu findendes, zeitloses Südstaaten-Album mit Kultstatus bezeichnet. Jeder einzelne Song besitzt diesen wilden und unberechenbaren Charm.  Ein Album, das auch heute noch frisch klingt und in jener Musik aus Memphis verwurzelt ist, deren Ruf James Luther Dickinson einst folgte. 180-Gramm Vinyl

James Luther ‚Jim‘ Dickinson played piano on the Rolling Stones‘ Wild Horses. His kids, Luther and Cody Dickinson, are founding members of the North Mississippi Allstars. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, James Luther ‚Jim‘ Dickinson (1941 – 2009) was a record producer, piano player, singer and in-demand session musician who played piano on the Rolling Stones‘ 1969 album cut Wild Horses, and contributed to the Flamin‘ Groovies‘ ‚Teenage Head‘ in 1971. With the Dixie Flyers, a band he formed in the late sixties, he backed Aretha Franklin, Sam & Dave and countless other recording artists at ATLANTIC’s Miami-based studio. The Dixie Flyers were guitarist Charlie Freeman, key- boardist Mike Utley, bassist Tommy McClure and drummer Sammy Creason.
In Memphis James Luther Dickinson later led a band called Mud Boy & The Neutrons. By the time Jim Dickinson recorded his first album in 1972, he had already been well-established as a musician and producer. The Dixie Flyers and Dickinson had been signed by ATLANTIC RECORDS‘ Jerry Wexler as the studio house band for almost every ATLANTIC soul recording session (second only to the Muscle Shoals home crew).
Also, Wexler signed the band with Dickinson to record an album. ‚Dixie Fried‘ was the result, a unique mix of southern boogie, blues, soul, and country music, a collection of nine hand- picked tunes. ‚Dixie Fried‘ is often called a hidden gem, a forgotten masterpiece, a legendary southern, hard-to-find and time- less album of cult status. Every song has its wild and unpredictable charm.
